What is Young Learners exam?

  • It is a series of fun and engaging activity-based English language tests. They introduce primary and lower-secondary level students to everyday written and spoken English, and are an excellent way to gain confidence and improve their English

 

  • Teachers can motivate their students to learn English, and parents can see the progress and achievements made

 

  • The tests are created for children and use topics they are familiar with.

 

 

What is the format of the exam?

Young Learners exams are divided into three levels and consist of four skills.

Your result

  • There is no pass or fail and all children receive a certificate which shows how many shields they have received (out of a maximum of five) for each part of the test.

 

  • The back of the certificate shows how results align to the CEFR. If a child has achieved 4 or 5 shields in each skill in Pre A1 Starters exam, they are ready to start preparing for the next Cambridge English exam – A1 movers.

 

  • If a child has achieved 4 or 5 shields in each skill in A1 Movers exam, they are ready to start preparing for the next Cambridge English exam – A2 Flyers.

 

  • If a child has achieved 4 or 5 shields in each skill in A2 Flyers exam, they are ready to start preparing for the next Cambridge English exam – A2 Key for Schools.

 

 

A new Statement of Result

For exams taken from 1 September 2020, each student will receive a certificate and a Statement of Results.

 

The Statement of Results includes:

  • the number of shields they have received for each part of the test
  • information on their strengths
  • areas for improvement
  • and ideas on how to improve.
